Synopsis:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbour, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

In the past, I have contemplated buying this book, many times. And I always thought ‘I’m going to end up hating this, I don’t want to waste my money’, so I never bought it. No loss there, thought. I’d convince myself ‘Must be rubbish, look at that cheesy cover, plus the reviews say it’s terrible’ – Of course the reviews were awful, I tend to read and focus on the 1* or 2* ratings before I buy a book (I know, that’s horrible for the authors, but I can’t afford to buy books that I’ll end up hating).

Anyway, I was in the mood to read something easy (I’ve been feeling like this a lot lately). I’d also heard that the two main characters hated each other and so it wasn’t a insta-love type of story. Which I didn’t mind, as this is a series and I really didn’t want to read about hormonal teenagers who can’t keep their hands to themselves for the next however many books there are.

I started reading, it was ok enough, until Katy (protagonist) meets Daemon. The interaction definitely stands out from other YA-PR romances. Not that I read much Paranormal but I’ve read enough Young Adult to know how often the two main characters fall in love after the first time they meet.

The dialogue in this story is the best thing about this book. Oh and the really cool aliens. ‘Story about aliens’ was another reason I didn’t want to read this. Thinking about a romance between a gooey-bugged eyed creature from another planet and a human. It’s hilarious and I’d question the authors sanity but I so would not read that.

Thankfully the Aliens in this book were cool-which made the story exciting.

This book needed another revision and the interaction between Katy and Daemon was forced in the beginning, later on it became natural. Katy frustrated me for being so careless and trusting people who were obviously shady. The dialogue and the interaction between characters made this book enjoyable for me.
